Armenian Kashatagh,by Zohrab Erkoyan

“Armenian Kashatagh” by Zohrab Erkoyan

In terms of territory, Kashatagh mainly coincides with Aghahetck, one of the twelve counties of the Syunik province of Mets Hayk (Greater Armenia) , overlapping with Aghahetck's southern and south-eastern parts. In later periods it has also been called Kshtagh. The Kashatagh region of the Republic of Artsakh borders with the Syunik marz (province) of Armenia, with Iran and with the Karvatchar, Martakert, Hadrut and Shushi regions of Artsakh. Berdzor is its administrative centre.

As a consequence of the 2020 war the region hass passed into Azeri control and its Armenian heritage is endangered as is that in all other occupied territories.
