Mairaberd

Majraberd is in the Askeran region of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The word Askeran is reportedly borrowed from Persian and means “barracks”. 

Askeran has also been a venue where Russian army troops were stationed in the times of the Russian Empire. The Berd (fortress) or Mairaberd fortress was built in 1788-1789.
