Nikol Duman Museum (Askeran district)

Nikol Duman (Nikoghayos Ter-Hovhannisyan), born in 1867, was a member of the Armenian liberation movement. After studying in Shushi, he served as a teacher in several villages of South Caucasus. Between 1894 and 1896, while teaching at Armenian schools in Tabriz and Salmast (Iran), he took part in important battles in the region: these earned him the nickname Duman (“storm”). He was also a leader of the Armenian defence forces during the Armenian-Tatar clashes in 1905-1906. His house has been turned into a museum and the adjacent buildings into a tourist centre, recreating the lifestyle of the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries.

Nikol Duman Museum is located in the Tsaghkashat village in the Askeran region, along the North-South motorway, about 22 kilometers from Stepanakert.
