The Museum of Fallen Freedom-Fighters, Stepanakert

The Museum was founded in 1995 in Stepanakert by the initiative of Mrs. Galya Arstamyan, the mother of the killed Freedom-fighter Grigory Arstamyan. It was opened to the public on the 9th of May, 2002 and displays the photos, personal effects, self-made weapons, letters and uniforms of over 3,000 Freedom-Fighters killed in the First Karabakh war. After Mrs Arstamyan passed, the mission was taken over by her other son, Artur Arstamyan.

A khachkar with a blessing for all the martyrs.
“Slain wedding” is a theme repeated at other museums as well. The wedding attire of Grigory Arstamyan, who was about to marry but was killed before he could wed, is on display here, symbolising the many youth who fell young defending their families and homeland.
There are over 3000 Freedom-Fighters that were killed in the Artsakh Liberation War. The Museum does not lack visitors who come to pay their tributes.
